Sometimes I get the tiniest bit concerned that I’m not spending enough of my time on ‘important’ things like reading and cleaning and hanging out with women I don’t seem to have much in common with just to say that I have people I hang out with. And this post is in no way going to convince you otherwise because I’m going to talk about TV. (But just as a side note, I have been spending most of my time the last couple of months learning software application suites and trying to be creative and productive for work, although holy hell, it’s taking way longer than I thought.)

Scrubs
About: Residents, staff, nurses, and custodians at a hospital
Currently in its somethingth season (I’m not very good at keeping up with those), this season hasn’t been my favorite. It’s getting better now, but for the first several episodes, I really felt like most of the jokes and topics were just recycled from old seasons, like the characters were constantly going, “Remember that time…” and then just talking about other episodes. Reagan disagrees with me, but there are others who agree… or who are too nervous not to. It still makes me laugh out loud though, so in my mind it’s still very successful as a series. And so far, no one in the main cast has gotten punctured by a falling icicle in the middle of a chick fight, so that’s a bonus (skip to 1:35 in that video if Grey’s Anatomy makes you want to throw your TV out of a window too).
The Soup
About: Other shows on TV through clips and commentary
I saw that Grey’s Anatomy clip on The Soup, which Justin and I love to watch. We watch it every week and get caught up on all the stupid shows out there without actually having to watch them. We love Joel McHale, he’s absolutely hilarious. This is one of those shows that is much, much funnier if you watch it consistently. It’s full of continuous, long-running jokes that are hysterical and well-placed in following segments.
The Office
About: Eccentric people in an office
I’ve never watched The Office consistently until this season and it’s been a lot of fun. For some reason, I don’t tend to laugh out loud during it, but I think it’s fun to watch and can appreciate the comedians in it. I’ll have to go back one day and watch the other seasons I suppose. For some reason, I can’t seem to remember most of the characters’ names. Like when people talk about characters in it, I’m all, “Okay, which one is that?” until they say, “The skinny blonde one that licks cats” and then I’m like, “Whoa! Reagan‘s in this show?! When did he dye his hair blonde?”
Flight of the Conchords
About: A New Zealand band (of two) and their incompetent manager trying to make it in New York
This season has been a little hit-or-miss with me. There are moments in every episode that make me laugh uproariously, but not all of them have made me laugh throughout the whole episode. It’s hard to top their first season though, which was pure genius. I’m still absolutely loving it though and am a loyal fan. Plus, it still tops most other shows in its hilarity.
South Park
About: Fourth graders with potty mouths satirizing our society
Between seasons. I believe the next one begins in 14 days or so? I was just on their site today watching their Dog Whisperer episode and they have a countdown on there until the next season. I still love their politics and social satire but have to shield my eyes from certain gross-out scenes.
It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia
About: Three guys, a girl, and Danny DeVito running a bar in Philadelphia
Love, love, LOVE this show! It’s also between seasons, but I can’t wait for it to return. This is definitely one of those that benefits from continuous watching because you get to know the characters. When I first started watching it, I pretty much hated everyone because they’re all horrible, unethical people, but now I just love them all. I would only recommend this show to cynical, dark humor type of people.

Mad Men
About: An ad agency in the 60s
Between seasons but the best show on television right now, in my all-knowing opinion. The attention to detail is instantly apparent and the acting and writing are unsurpassed as of late. It’s a drama, though, so probably not for everyone.

Burn Notice
About: A spy who gets kicked out of the CIA who does odd jobs with his IRA ex and FBI friend to get by
This is a cheesy action/spy series that is actually becoming really popular mainstream. Justin and I look forward to every episode, more than most other shows, and we think the writing and acting is even really improving over time and getting less cheesy. I think the only thing I really don’t like about this show is how painfully thin and tanned the main actress is. I actually really adore her, but I just wish she had a few extra pounds on her and looked a bit more… natural. This show is just a really fun escape.
Chuck
About: A guy who spies undercover while working at an electronics store
I can’t say that I technically follow this show yet. I’ve only seen a few episodes today but think it’s pretty entertaining. It’s much cheesier than Burn Notice but intends to be. It’s another action/spy type of show and the main actress actually looks like she eats every once in a while. I think the characters are really endearing and fun. Another fun escape but nothing that I’d say was an impressive piece of writing or acting.
24
About: Counter Terrorist Unit chasing down terrorist threats
Justin and I wait until each season ends and then watch them in a very condensed period of time. It’s a lot more fun that way, I think. It’s a really fun show to watch while you’re cuddled up and the suspense is just entertaining. It’s packed full of stereotypes and overused archetypes, but I still look forward to our 24 marathons.

Lipstick Jungle
About: Three BFF successful women in the movie and fashion industry who have realistic lives like dating a billionaire or dating a 20-something while married but luckily her husband dies so she can be with the 20-something but wait her husband was cheating on her too and impregnated his girlfriend
Is this canceled? I don’t even know. While it was on, though, I pretty much kept up with it. Why? I have absolutely no idea whatsoever. I didn’t like the women. I didn’t like the men. I didn’t like the stories. I didn’t like the “Let’s get the Sex and the City crowd to watch this” feel. But I kept watching for some unearthly reason. I won’t be too heartbroken when/if this is over.

” I can’t seem to remember most of the characters’ names.”
precisely why you need to watch the other seasons asap. it will make it soooo much funnier
I think my favorites are Burn Notice, The Soup, and South Park. South park has been doing too short of seasons lately and it’s annoying. Should be starting up again in the next month though.
i USED to watch grey’s anatomy until chick got impailed by the icicle – that was a little much. so i switched to the Office. LOVE scrubs. i was so sad when they took it off the air, glad it is back! the soup is hilarious. i have just started watching the first season of 24. one weekend i plan on renting several seasons and doing nothing but watch it!
LOVE The Office. Even watch the reruns Tuesday nights on TBS.
Loved South Park’s very first show and started taping every episode. I guess tv shows on dvds really haven’t been around too long, if I think about it. I remember buying tapes of the X Files. They would put a few episodes on each tape. Anyway, I haven’t watched South Park in ages.
I like Chuck, but I always miss the first 15 minutes. I have a hard time remembering it’s on Mondays. Same with Medium.
I’m too obsessed with The Office. I wear a Cornell sweatshirt and my skype screen name is iheartjimhalpert. This season isn’t the greatest. You should watch the Dinner Party episode from the last season. Hilarious. Yes I do agree with Flight of the Conchords. You can tell their budget is bigger this season.
Do you think the Arrested Development movie is really going to happen and do you think it’s a good idea? I kind of flip flop. I want more, but is there really anything else they can do with the characters. It will be interesting to see what happens.
@Peggy: I was thinking that exact same thing tonight when I watched the most recent FOTC — bigger budget. I didn’t like it as much.
I’m not sure what to think about the Arrested Development movie either. Ron Howard was talking at the Oscars and said it looks like it’s a go for sure, but I’m with you — I can’t really think of a Bluth storyline they’re going to wrap up in 100 min. While I think it’d be fun to ‘reunite’ with the characters, I am a little skeptical.
@Dr Wifey: Have fun with 24!! Update me and let me know how you’re liking it!
