And she’d be so happy to know that her girly bits are being pointed out to everyone, I’m sure! She was a modest little stinker. It took 15-20 minutes before she’d spread ‘em legs for us to find out what she was, and even then the umbilical cord was getting in the way for a bit. I think Justin was on the verge of laughing because he knew how tortured I’d be if we couldn’t tell what she was. Luckily the doctor was just as determined as I was!
Other than that, all’s well. She’s healthy and apparently very active. The doctor had a time of it trying to get measurements what with her moving around so much.
I’m pretty sure this announcement is old news for most people at this point what with all the calling, texting, twittering, and facebooking I’ve done already, but I had to post an announcement here anyway of course!

Hooray! Congratulations Shannon :) Oh how exciting…I am just giddy right now! She’s a lucky girl. Have fun shopping- girls are too much fun to shop for and I don’t even like shopping hahaha.

My daughter was a stinker too, it took them forever to get a good shot of her girly parts. From what I hear that is normal for girls to be modest, with their legs cross. While boys keep them wide open to show the world. My nurse in Springville with my daughter said whenever the baby doesn’t cooperate she always tells the parents its a girl.

@Angie & @Naomi: Not sure about the name sharing yet on the blog. I’ll have to talk to Justin about whether we want to use kids’ names or not since we haven’t discussed that. I’ll be sure to let you know though either way, don’t you worry!
@Lesley: You’re not alone there. I’m pretty sure the doctor didn’t know either & it’s all a big conspiracy. He was just pointing to grayish areas that look the exact same as other grayish areas and saying stuff like, “These are the kidneys,” and I’m going, “Oh, you mean that gray area right there?” because it all just looks the same. Only when he zoomed out and I could happen to tell where the head and spine were did it actually look like a baby. And “my little buttercup has the sweetest smile” is by far the best sound to be waking up to for sure! That’s my ringtone for you too.
maybe a public “not really her name,name” . there are so many fun names out there. it will be your gift to her…of course, she can always rebel when she’s 22 and have it changed to cleopatra or star or something. hell..social experiment. name her something horrid so she’ll have something else to yell at you about when she’s a teenager! didn’t we all hate our names at some time in our life?

If I was you, I’d not mention kids names until the child is born and named. Otherwise you’re bound to get someone, well meaning or otherwise, going “what d’you want to call her that for?”. Or alternatively you’ll go off the name and will have to announce to everyone that it’s changed.

Congratulations. It is so fun to raise beautiful little girls. I still remember you constantly wanting to spin so your dresses would fan out around you. Teresa’s twin girls do that now and it always reminds me of watching you do it. I have always loved the name Emily, but it was third behind Shannon and Lesley. But if we’d had another, Emily would have been there. (“Emily’s Song” is also one of my favorite songs, by The Moody Blue, on their “Every Good Boy Deserves Favor” album. You’ll have to listen to it sometime. A gorgeous song.)

Shannon wore dresses?! When she didn’t HAVE to?! And she enjoyed it … and twirled … I really feel like I am missing a huge chunk of Shannon history.
I remember John Denver, fruit roll ups, Seinfeld … but never twirling.
