One Giant Step

November 13, 2009

It is really pathetic when you order something Next Day Air and it feels like it took forever to get to you. Then you wake up early the day that UPS is going to bring it to your door and can hardly focus on anything else until your order gets to your hands.

This morning felt like five Christmases and birthdays smashed together into one day. I could barely keep my hands from shaking as I opened up the most exciting brown box I’ve ever gotten in the mail.

Because today, you see, I got my first L lens.

And even better, it was a gift to me from my own little business. Even now, I’m so excited I still have butterflies and can hardly contain myself, and the fact that I earned this myself through my own hard work makes it that much sweeter.

I know to most people (especially those with enough money to just go out and pick up items like this anytime they want), this doesn’t seem like such a big deal, but to me it means a lot, both because it’s just something I badly wanted that I didn’t think I’d be able to purchase for a loooong time and also because it just symbolizes a big step forward career-wise.

An L lens was always this distant dream, this far off goal to reach, so to feel the weight of it in my hands (and so much sooner than I ever dared to hope for) was just such a fun moment.

I just wish I had had someone to share that moment with. Turk didn’t seem to care but luckily for him he looked even cuter through my new lens.

I’m so excited to see what this lens can do. The wider angle should allow some cooler shots, and the color an quality should be improved as well.

So excited for you! In response to your Tweet about crappy work. Whoa, do I whole-heartedly agree . . . I can hardly look at “our former portrait photographer’s work” now. It’s so boring & fakey looking to me. Her work used to be so beautiful and now it’s just going through the motions. That’s why we love what you’ve done for us so much. There’s SO much more character and feeling. GENUINE. That’s the word I’ve been searching for. Your work feels genuine. You DON’T charge enough for your work, but while we’re still paupers too, I’m going to take full advantage of the amazing bargain! Once L’s a “real doctor” ;) you can raise your rates SKY HIGH and I’ll still happily fork over the money!

I’m not really sure what an “L” lens is but I am really happy for you! You really deserved to spoil yourself a little! Congrats!

That’s so awesome. That has to be one of the best feelings. Being able to buy something with the money that you worked so hard for. I have an ultrasonic lens. They’re wonderful.
