Things I’m Liking & Hating Right Now

December 2, 2009

I’m Liking:

  1. Safari web browser, especially when set on medium font smoothing. It just makes the font smooth, thick, & yummy looking. Chrome‘s awesome too, but I’m obsessed with Safari’s font smoothing and have been for quite some time now.
  2. Getting kicked by a baby that keeps getting stronger & stronger. I kept waiting for the kicks to get uncomfortable like everyone said it was going to, but it never got to that point for me. I’m still loving it at 39 1/2 weeks.
  3. Waiting for online orders to arrive on my doorstep. Even though we paid for it all, it still feels like I’m getting a present when I’m waiting for online purchases to get here.
  4. Men always asking me how many megapixels my camera shoots in. Typical… obsessed with size (even when it’s one of the factors that matters least). (Take that as far as you want.)
  5. The word ‘snow’ appearing on our Friday forecast this week, whether or not it actually comes to pass.
  6. X-Files. We’ve been going through the episodes from the beginning & watching it straight through since I’ve never seen the series. We just finished Season 3, & I have to say I’m not surprised it was so successful. It has great writing, character development, and David Duchovny who’s unbelievably natural on-camera. I especially liked when we were watching, and I said, “I love David Duchovny,” and Justin responds, “Yeah, he’s a cutie, isn’t he?”
  7. The realization that perhaps it won’t always take me 10 minutes to shift from my left to right side in bed or vice versa. Maybe I’ll also be able to wear non-slip-on shoes one day once I can reach my feet to tie my shoes. It seems like some far off dream right now.
  8. Turk & Justin cuddling, which looks like this.
  9. Christmas candy: the minty stuff, the advent calendars, and those chocolate oranges. Mmmm.

I’m Hating:

  1. Jimmy Fallon saying ‘buddy’ too much to everyone on his Late Night show. I still enjoy the show but I cringe a little every time he calls someone ‘buddy’ which ends up being about 5x per show.
  2. My hair. It’s in a very awkward in-between stage. If I could’ve afforded it, I would’ve kept it boy short & blond for a long time, but it was just too expensive to maintain so now I’m not sure what to do besides let it grow.
  3. Justin’s schedule this week (but I’m liking that he has a job).

Well, that’s reassuring… my likes list was way easier to write than my hates list. I guess I haven’t become too cynical & hateful in my old age. (Or maybe there’s just not a lot of things on my hates list that I’m comfortable sharing with everyone & their dog. Eh, I’ll pretend it’s the first scenario.)

I love your like #4 and relate to your hate number 1. I haven’t watched Jimmy’s show, but I used to have a teacher who would say “Right?” about once every minute during class and it was awful.

Aha! Here’s another dislike: People who use ‘literally’ when they DON’T MEAN LITERALLY! Like, “They were literally in their grave.” Well, they weren’t LITERALLY in their grave. They were FIGURATIVELY in their grave. So don’t say literally!!

it’s always good when the liking list is longer than the hating list. i love the packages and cards of christmastime. no matter how technical life gets…a package in the mail is always a lift!!

i thought a while back you tried safari and loved it for a few weeks then decided you hated it. what turned you back to loving it? did they change something?

@jp: Yeah, I stopped using it before because it didn’t work with a lot of sites still. I decided to try it again several months ago thinking they must’ve caught up by now, and they have. It’s become reliable on pretty much all the sites I use so I like it again. Apparently, Safari & Chrome are basically the exact same thing, the way they function, which explains why they’re pretty much the only 2 I switch between. I like different things about both of them so I go back & forth, but I rarely use any other browsers.
